Meet Kathryn Newman and Dave Bornhofen

Kathryn Newman Bornhofen and Dave Bornhofen are nationally recognized and respected trainers with extensive canine behavioral training, private instruction and competition experience. Through Augusta Dog Training’s in-home training program they have successfully helped thousands of dogs & their owners achieve their training goals. 

Kathryn’s professional experience extends over 34 years in addition to her prior amateur experience. In 1996 she created Augusta Dog Training, a private in-home dog training service. Today Augusta is the oldest and most successful in-home dog training company in the country. Over the years it has grown to include board and train services, dog training classes, doggy daycare, boarding and professional grooming. Today there are 5 Augusta facilities located in Edina, Long Lake, Burnsville and Montgomery, MN.

An American Kennel Club Breeder of Merit, Kathryn has bred, trained or handled dogs to Best in Show, Judges Award of Merit, High in Trial, Championship, Obedience (Utility Dog), Hunting (Master Hunter) and Tracking titles and honors.

Since 1997 Kathryn has been a regular guest contributor on KARE-11 TV and has served as a national pet consultant. She has been credited with appearances on Minnesota Bound and Tritronics (Garmin) Dog Training videos.

Dave Bornhofen has been training professionally since 1998 as a senior trainer at Augusta. David has successfully competed with his Labradors earning multiple Master Hunter titles and Master National Qualifications.

Dave expertise is in young dog development. He is known for his attention to detail, ability to customize training to a dog’s individual personality and instructional abilities with his human pupils. 

Highly proficiency at electronic collar training, Dave has trained a wide variety of breeds to an electronic collars while maintaining a dog’s spirit and personality. These breeds extend beyond the typical hunting breeds to include guarding, herding, terrier, small breeds and doodles.

Kathryn and Dave are well known for the teaching abilities with their clients and their ability to communicate dog training lessons. Both have extensive experience and excel with dogs that do not respond to traditional methods or techniques.
